Pool days, outdoor sports, covered wear and long shifts in protective gear are part of everyday life in Malaysia, and each one puts skin under a different kind of stress. Find your day below to see why your skin reacts and a simple routine that helps it stay comfortable.
Swimming is great for the body, but pool water is tough on skin. Chlorine and long hours in the water strip away the skin’s natural oils, so skin often feels tight, dry and itchy after a swim, and sensitive skin can flare up. Rinse off soon, cleanse gently and moisturise while skin is still slightly damp.
Running, cycling, hiking or a game of basketball in Malaysian heat means sweat, sun and friction. Sweat left on the skin can trigger itch and prickly-heat discomfort, while repeated rubbing from clothing and gear leads to chafing on thighs, underarms and feet. Cool, cleanse and protect: a refreshing wash after activity, and a barrier cream on areas that rub.
Wearing a hijab, long sleeves or covered clothing all day in a warm climate traps heat and sweat close to the skin. The scalp, hairline, neck and forehead can become itchy, sticky or bumpy, and fabric rubbing on damp skin adds to the irritation. Skin under covered wear needs a light, refreshing cleanse and gentle moisture that won’t feel heavy.
Masks, gloves, gowns, helmets and safety vests protect you at work, but long hours in them are hard on skin. Heat and sweat build up underneath, straps and edges rub on the same spots, and frequent hand washing and sanitiser leave hands dry and sore. After a shift, skin needs a gentle cleanse and a protective cream to recover.
